Former Boston Marathon champion Wesey Korir and Jaguar nominated for CAS position in Ministry of Sports

The duo was nominated alongside 48 others whose names have been submitted to the parliament for vetting.

The 2012 Boston Marathon winner Wesley Korir and former Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Kanyi alias Jaguar have been nominated for the Chief Administrative Secretary positions in the Ministry of Youth Affairs,Sports and the Arts.

The duo was nominated alongside 48 others whose names have been submitted to the parliament for vetting.

"It is notified that His Excellency Hon William Samoei Ruto, following the recommendation of the Public Service Commission has today 16th March 2023 nominated various persons as Chief Administrative Secretaries,” said Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei in a communication.

By dint of the executive action, the nominations have been transmitted to the national Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament in accordance with the Public Appointments Act,” he added.

Korir, an ex-track and road race runner also served as a Member of parliament for Cherangany Constituency between 2013 to 2017. He has been nominated to assist in the sports section with Jaguar, heading to the arts segment.

Jaguar, who also doubles up as a musician served as the Starehe MP between 2017 and last year.

Korir had a pretty decent career on the track and road races as, he claimed victory in major world marathon and also, reigned supreme in other grand races.

The former legislator, claimed the Los Angeles Marathon twice in 2009 and 2010.

He secured a silver medal in the Chicago Marathon in 2011 and was also, part of the Team Kenya that participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Should the parliament approve the nomination of the two, they will succeed Hassan Noor and Zack Kinuthia who held the positions before the past general election.
